The Government Of Maharashtra established the Directorate of Ayurveda in the year 1957. Before it erstwhile Surgeon General Mumbai had control on this department which was existing from 1954 to 1957. In the year 1975 Homeopathic system of Medicine was brought under the umbrella of this Directorate. At Present all the system of Indian Medicine in a State i.e Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) are functioning under the Directorate of Ayurveda, Medical Education and Drugs Department, Government of Maharashtra. Now the name of this Directorate has been changed as Directorate of AYUSH. Now this Directorate is known as Directorate OF AYUSH, Maharashtra State.
